Chlorpyrifos Brands Linked to Parkinson’s Disease

Chlorpyrifos, also known as “Dursban,” was once the most popular insecticide in America. But in 2000, it was banned in stores nationwide after researchers discovered chlorpyrifos exposure could potentially damage children’s brain development. Today, the pesticide can only be used by licensed professionals in specific industries, like commercial agriculture.
As of 2026, six states have also outlawed chlorpyrifos for industrial use due to other neurological concerns, including a possible increased risk of Parkinson’s disease.
Chlorpyrifos overview
Known as an organophosphate insecticide, chlorpyrifos is primarily used to protect crops by eliminating termites, aphids, rootworms, and many other insects. Before it was banned for home use, it was also effective at killing a variety of common household pests, like fire ants, cockroaches, fleas, and ticks.
Chlorpyrifos is still used for many industrial purposes today, including:
- Removing pests from crops & trees
- Landscaping & turf management
- Protecting nurseries & greenhouses
- Managing mosquitoes in public areas
- Preserving utility infrastructure
- Killing warehouse & facility pests
- Treating logs & landscape timbers
- Preventing livestock pest infestation
UCLA links chlorpyrifos to increased Parkinson’s risk
On December 11, 2025, a landmark study from UCLA Health found that long-term chlorpyrifos exposure could increase a person’s risk of developing Parkinson’s by over 150%. This was the first study to ever find a specific association between chlorpyrifos and an increased risk of Parkinson’s disease.
To reach these findings, UCLA researchers examined medical data from roughly 850 healthy Americans and 850 with Parkinson’s disease, and then tested the effects of chlorpyrifos exposure on mice and zebrafish for an 11-week period. As the study concluded, the mice and zebrafish experienced similar signs of brain damage and motor impairment issues as humans who’ve been diagnosed with Parkinson’s.
Which brands may be linked to Parkinson’s?
Based on current research, exposure to any pesticide brand that contains chlorpyrifos could increase a person’s risk of developing Parkinson’s disease. The following brands have been named in lawsuits for victims with Parkinson’s:
Dursban, Lorsban, Raid Liquid Roach Ant Killer, Scotts ProTurf Insecticides, MosquitoMist, Cobalt, Insecta, Drexel, Durashield CS, Chemisco Roach Control, Pilot, Ortho-Klor, Ortho Dursban, Duraplex TR, Warhawk, Pyrinex, NuFos, Hatchet, Vulcan, Lock-On, Yuma (4E), Govern, Empire, Equity, Bolton, Vesper, Stallion, Voltage Endurx, Pyrofos, Tundra Supreme.
