PFAS Lawsuit
Exposure to drinking water or fire fighting foam contaminated with PFAS “forever chemicals” has been linked to a variety of cancers and illnesses.
Why are people suing PFAS manufacturers?
PFAS are a group of “forever chemicals” that are used to make Teflon non-stick pans, firefighting foam, grease-resistant food packaging, and many other household goods. In 2001, plaintiffs filed a class action lawsuit against PFAS manufacturer DuPont for failing to disclose to nearby residents that the creek near its production plant contained an alarming amount of PFOA, a cancerous PFAS chemical no longer made in the United States.
Today, PFAS manufacturers DuPont and 3M have been targeted in thousands of water contamination and firefighting foam lawsuits. A settlement of at least $11.5 billion dollars was recently announced, but this amount could still go up to $13.7 billion.
How to qualify for the PFAS lawsuit
If you were diagnosed with cancer within the last 20 years after being exposed to PFAS in drinking water, firefighting foam, or a consumer product, you may qualify for compensation. You may also be able file a claim for an immediate family member who has passed away.
At this time, only these two cancer types are supported by an adequate amount of scientific evidence and are eligible for a free case review:
- Kidney Cancer
- Testicular Cancer
PFAS exposure has also been linked to a variety of other cancers and illnesses, but they are currently NOT eligible to qualify for a free case review due to an insufficient amount of academic research.
Thyroid diseases:
- Hyperthyroidism
- Hypothyroidism
- Hashimoto's Disease
- Grave's Disease
- Thyroiditis
- Thyroid Nodules or Goiter
Other cancers and illnesses:
- Prostate Cancer
- Liver Cancer
- Thyroid Cancer
- Ulcerative Colitis
- Preeclampsia
However, this could likely change in the future as researchers continue to publish studies about the effects of PFAS exposure on the human body.

Frequently asked questions about the PFAS lawsuit
How do I know if I have been exposed to PFAS?
There are multiple ways to detect if you’ve been exposed to PFAS. A blood test can measure the amount of PFAS found in your bloodstream. You can also test your tap water supply by purchasing a PFAS water test kit and sending a sample to a certified laboratory, but this method can become quite expensive depending on the kit you choose.
Is my area at-risk of PFAS water contamination?
To determine how much PFAS water contamination is in your specific area, you can use the Environmental Working Group’s interactive PFAS contamination map. The United States Geological Survey also has its own interactive PFAS map.
How much can I expect to win for a PFAS settlement?
The value of your settlement would depend on the monetary value of the damages you’ve suffered and other individual factors. Because these settlement amounts heavily vary for different plaintiffs, we can only provide you with the average range of damages plaintiffs have earned. Settlements for the PFAS lawsuit are estimated to fall between $75,000 and $350,000 per case.
